Mom's dismembered remains found abandoned in vacant lot, Argentine police charge suspect with femici

Argentine authorities believe they have found a bag with the chopped-up human remains of a young woman who was reported missing earlier this month.

Investigators searching for Luisina Leoncino, 24, made the shocking discovery Sunday on the side of a stream in Concordia, a city in the northeastern province of Entre Ríos.

The bag contained a torso and both legs, and authorities were still searching for the remaining body parts.

Concordia police superintendent Juan Beguerie told reporters that 'everything indicates that this is about Luisina.'

DNA testing has been requested to determine if there is a positive match.

Martín Jauregui, the attorney for Leoncino's family, told Cronica TV that he is certain the remains belong to the mother of two boys.

'First, there are not many missing (people); second, the clothes,' Jauregui said while adding that 'a tattoo' on one of the body parts will allow the medical examiner's office to identify the woman.

Beguerie said the remains may have been abandoned July 10 and investigators suspected they were ditched at the vacant lot after reviewing security cameras and telephone records.

Authorities arrested Horacio Ramírez, 42, on July 24 and accused him of feminicide after analyzing surveillance cameras. He was placed in pre-trial detention.

'Luisina has had previous communication with the man, he was not a stranger. We have a profile of the man, he is a criminal ...,' Jauregui said. 'Luisina was in a vulnerable situation.'

Leoncino was last seen July 9 after she was dropped by a motorcycle cabbie at Ramírez's home.

Video footage showed the mother-of-two sitting on the back of the motorcycle as it was pulling up to a residence. A second video, from July 10, showed Ramírez transporting two bags on his motorcycle.

Cameras in the vicinity didn't show Leoncino leaving the home, which has only one door.

'We started to see that some periods of the filming had inconsistencies and doubts and certain attitudes of the detained person could be observed,' Beguerie said.

He has not ruled out that more than one person may have been involved with Leoncino's disappearance and murder.

'We are convinced that (the detainee) is the author of this act, from the police point of view. And from the judiciary's, there is also firm belief of the condition of this person as an author,' Beguerie added.

Leoncino's disappearance comes after her sister, Valeria Leoncino, 25, was shot dead March 6.

Valeria Leoncino was sitting outside her home with three friends, when Carlos Passarella, 34, shot her. Witnesses said Passarella was 'obsessed' with her.
